Acknowledgement and Condolences for loss of respected Elder
The PKKP Aboriginal Corporation wishes to acknowledge and send our sincerest condolences to the family of the late Mrs Dowton and the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura community for the recent loss of your respected Elder. Your Elder was a true National Treasure to the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura community and to us all.
Mrs Dowton held a wealth of knowledge around the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinkura land, language and culture, a fluent speaker of both the Kurrama and Pinikura languages and worked tirelessly on ensuring its preservation.
The wider community also benefited from her knowledge around traditional lore, heritage, and culture. Mrs Dowton played a very significant role in PKKP receiving a positive Native Title Determination, which was granted and celebrated on 2nd September 2015 on her country.
The Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura community have suffered the great loss of a highly respected leader and matriarch. A selfless person, who contributed so much of her time and energy to ensuring her culture, language and country was being protected and preserved for her people.
The PKKP Aboriginal Corporation will cherish the time shared with her and her family over the years and we extend our deepest sympathies and support to the entire community at this time of mourning and sorry business.
Please do not hesitate to contact the PKKPAC team at our Office on (08) 9185 5000 if there is anything we can do to help, assist or support families during this time of sorry business.
